Angel Stadium

Anaheim Stadium had been the home of the Angels since their move from Los Angeles following the 1965 season. The stadium opened April 9, 1966, as the California Angels hosted the San Francisco Giants in an exhibition game. The franchise's first American League game was April 19, 1966 vs. the Chicago White Sox. The Los Angeles Angels played at Wrigley Field in 1961 and Chavez Ravine from 1962-65.

A Look At Angel Stadium

Angel Stadium is in Anaheim, California near Disneyland. It is the home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who belong to the American League. The stadium is commonly known as The Big A. Covering about 160 acres, ground was broken in 1964 and Angel Stadium opened in 1966. Baseball champion Mickey Mantle shot his last game-winning home run at Angel Stadium.

Besides being a venue for professional football and baseball games, Angel Stadium is often used for high school and college football matches. Evangelist Billy Graham has been featured in two crusades, plus several large music concerts such as by the Rolling Stones and The Who have been performed at Angel Stadium. The office and studio of radio station KLAA are also housed at Angel Stadium, which is now owned by the city of Anaheim.

Since 1990 Angel Stadium has been used for the Harvest Crusades, a three-day event presented by evangelist Greg Laurie, head pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship of Riverside, that usually brings over one hundred thousand people. Tours of Angel Stadium take sports fans behind the scenes, into the press room, dugout, clubhouse, and press conference room.

Angels Scholars is a program that awards college scholarships to five Orange County public school students every year.

On the north side of Angel Stadium adjacent to the parking lot is a train station, which is serviced by Amtrak and the Metrolink Orange County Line. The train station provides easy access to Angel Stadium from nearby communities, and is also convenient to the Honda Center across the street from the stadium.
